Did They Really Care?
What do you do when you watch two cats, adopted into two different homes, who are the only family each other has ever known?
As one sister watched the other being carried away in a carrier, I wondered, What is she thinking? What’s going on in her mind? Perhaps she’s fine. Maybe she doesn’t even care.
But then, suddenly, you notice how bewildered and lost she seems because her sister is gone.
Even though they aren’t classified as a bonded pair, a part of me wonders: Should they stay together?
They were rescued from deplorable conditions, where they were forced to share a home with many other cats. Then they were taken to a shelter and transported to a rescue. So many changes in such a short amount of time—and now they have to navigate this world without each other.
Perhaps it’s my human side taking too much into consideration, but I still wonder: Will she miss her sister?
I often have to watch siblings get separated. Even though they’re cats, they still have feelings. They express love and affection. They form relationships with each other. Maybe a sister or brother.
They may not be technically classified as a bonded pair, but when one watches the other disappear, I can’t help but wonder:
Did they have love to share?
Did they really care?
